Today I took the girls to the Festival of children's Literature at the Norman Lindsay Gallery in Faulconbridge. Despite the heat it was a great day and all three of us came home happy.
We listened to stories, spoke to authors and oral story tellers, the girls painted some plasters and did some craft. We also saw a show, listened to some singing, had a picnic lunch and patted some animals. We even shared a gelato!
The girls each got a book by the children's author Kate Forsyth and she signed them for them. Ella had to promise to email her thoughts about the book when she has finished reading it. It was quite a thrill to see her so excited about speaking to an author. Kate has a daughter named Ella and so took a special interest in her. She said that Ella looked liked one of the heroines in one of her books with her red hair and stunning blue eyes!
I bought some story telling card to use at home and school from one of the oral story tellers ( see photo). I'm quite taken with them and can't wait to use them with my year 7 and 8 classes. The possibilities are endless.
At the end of the day we were all exhausted and suffering a little sunstroke and dehydration, but it was lovely to be able to spend the day like this. Alexandra giggling at the big magic pudding walking around and her participation in one of the shows ( two guys in drag doing a bit from Cinderella!)was very special!
