Impossible things

Today I took 151 year 8 students to see Alice in Wonderland. It was a reward for them as they are such a fabulous year group and have settled into this year very well. They were pretty good today, but the talking ( during the promos) and rustling of all their packets drove me up the wall. I get so stressed when I organise an excursion and am always anxious about being out and about with the students. When we got back to school a few people said how good they were and how they are a credit to me. On reflection, I agree although it may not be humble to say so. I have worked incredibly hard for these kids and have had high expectations of them since day one last year. I'm always there for them, and they appreciate all the effort I put in to being their year advisor. They respect that, respect me and therefore do the right thing for me. Being their YA has been one of the most rewarding jobs I've done at a school. It has been stressful, heartbreaking, heartwarming and sometimes all ot once, but I wouldn't change a thing. They are growing up into such fabulous young people, even when some are faced with the most shocking adversity.

The movie made me reflect on impossible things and how they can be overcome, how we need to forge a way through. My weight loss seemed an impossible thing but, with focus and effort, the weight is coming off. I will get to goal. I've realised that I have succeeded and overcome many impossible things in my life so far, and that rather than beat myself up over some small things, I should recognise the greater achievements of my life and celebrate.

Without thinking of and facing impossible things, where would we be? The power of the imagination to make real change is enormous!

  2. I wish I had more teachers like you when I was at school so you go right on ahead and give yourself a big pat on the back, you truly deserve it!
